All about the controls found on the budgee header

The Budgee header displays key metrics that give you an instant health-check of your organisation. Read all about Dashboard Metrics and the Dashboard view here.


The Header

Header controls overview

  1. Logo: The budgee header is where all the important controls for the board are found. Clicking on the Budgee logo takes you back to the board selection page.

  2. Organisation Name: Click on the organisation name to edit it if you want to name it something else.

  3. Tabs: Clicking on the tabs will take you to different views of your transactions. These tabs can be dragged to reorder them. New ones can be added and existing ones can be edited to change the view they show. More about Tabs can be found here.

  4. Share: Clicking share lets you invite others to see the board. Where you can share the board with others for editing or viewing. More about sharing can be found here.

  5. Notifications: Where you receive budgee notifications.

  6. Help: Handy help information and links can be found here.

  7. User profile: Links to account settings budgee referrals and signing out.


  1. Scenario creator: This opens up the scenario drawer, where you create and group new scenarios, toggle off and on existing scenarios, or remove old scenarios you no longer need. Read all about scenarios here.

  2. Last update: Clicking this will initiate an update with your accounting software.

  3. Go To: This moves you to a specific time period that you might be interested in without having to scroll to it.

  4. Filters: This filters transactions shown on the board. It is a handy tool for quickly finding just the transactions you are interested in.

  5. Options: There are a range of options here, including board settings, different ways to view the board, showing or hiding GST, or editing categories, bank accounts etc. Read more about the options here.


Tabs

Tabs in the budgee header are used to show different views of your transactions. You can add custom tabs and edit your existing ones.

The default tabs that are created with each board are:

All transactions

All your transactions by month

Seeing everything without hiding them in groups. This is a great view to find specific transactions. Filters are very useful here.

You can also create custom tabs where you can call it what you like, have saved filters, show specific footers and plenty more. All this is covered in more detail here.

Sharing & Permissions

Clicking share lets you invite others to see the board. When you add a new user to your organisation, you can specify their permission level to strictly control what they can see and do inside the board.

How to invite a new user

1. First, click the Share button located in the Budgee header.

2. This opens the sharing menu, showing everyone who currently has access to the board. Click Invite User.

3. Enter the email address of the person you want to invite and select their permission level from the dropdown (Admin, Edit, or View).

4. Once invited, they will appear in your sharing list as Pending until they check their email and accept the invitation.

  • Full access to the board.
  • Can manage board settings and sharing.
  • Can add, edit and organise board data.
  • Can import data and sync connected accounting data.

Edit

  • Can work in the board day to day.
  • Can add and edit transactions, balances, scenarios, categories, labels, contacts, bank accounts, allocations, header tabs and batch tools.
  • Can sync connected accounting data.
  • Cannot manage board settings, sharing or data imports.

View

  • Read-only access to board data and settings.
  • Can view the board, transactions, forecasts and reports.
  • Can turn scenarios on or off for their own view.
  • Cannot add, edit, import, sync or change board settings.
💡 Note: Scenario toggles affect the viewer’s own view of the board, not the scenario setup itself.

Options

Clicking the Options menu in the header provides a variety of board-level settings and quick toggles:

Board settings

Rename your board, adjust your organisation's financial year start, and manage other high-level preferences.

Sales tax / GST

Toggle whether transaction amounts display inclusive or exclusive of sales tax (e.g., GST or VAT) across the board.

Export

Download your board's data to a CSV or Excel file for external reporting or record-keeping.

Categories & Labels

Open the management tools to create, edit, or delete categories and labels used to group your transactions.

Contacts

Manage your customer and supplier records synced from your accounting software or created manually.

Bank Accounts

View your connected bank accounts, manage credit limits, and control which accounts are visible on the board.

Batch tools

Find a group of transactions or repeating series and apply the same change (like reclassifying or archiving) to all of them at once.
